I clean up diligently after every use, following directions shown in the commercials. I add a few drops of dish washing liquid and warm water in the container. The machine has a pre-programmed setting for cleaning, which I generally use for automatic cycle control. Once completed, I give it a good rinse and let it air dry.
Overtime, with the use of parade of ingredients including leafy greens, spices and turmeric, the container builds up some scale. The minerals from our food and hard water deposits and makes you forget how squeaky clean it was when it first came in.
However, recently I found some interesting hacks to clean the built up and restore the clean and clear look with few simple, easy steps.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
Pour a cup of white vinegar along with a quarter cup of baking soda. Let it fizz and bubble up. Later add two cups of water and turn on the machine on high for a few minutes. The water and vinegar mix will start heating up and steam will come out from the top. Give it quick rinse after a few minutes and get a clear blender once again.
Fill the blender halfway with warm water (remember warm, not hot) and a few drops of dish washing liquid along with cut lemon. Run the blender for a minute or two. Say hi to the sparkling blender. Personally, I like the fresh smell of lemon better than vinegar, but both work great is cutting through the scum.
Add 4 cups of water, half cup of hydrogen peroxide with a few drop of lemon essential oil to the container. Let it soak for a few hours and rinse thoroughly with thoroughly.
Instead of baking soda with vinegar, you could use vinegar alone to get good results. However you would need to soak the container for about 4 hours first. Add warm water mixed with a cup of white vinegar or apple cider vinegar and fill the container with it. After soaking it for a few hours, use a brush (non-abrasive) to remove tough stains. Rinse it thoroughly and Voila!
Keeping the container in sun for a few hours can easily break down tough stains like turmeric. The UV rays of sun will bleach the stained container.
- Never put the lid or the container in the dishwasher, as the chemicals in the detergent can damage, etch or form a film on it.
- Avoid putting the blender parts in the refrigerator. Change in temperatures, can cause change in shape and affect materials like plastic, rubber and metals due to expansion and shrinkage.
